Affirmations for Healing

Words shape the way we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Especially the ones ingrained in us during childhood. This space is for affirmations that feel like truth in progress. You don’t have to believe them yet, you only need to be willing to try.

Affirmations work to disrupt our internal narratives. When our internal feedback is a loop of negativity and shame, we can only counteract that with kindness. Speaking kindly to ourselves is the beginning of our healing. Repeating these affirmations to ourselves often rewires the neural networks of our brains.

They’re most effective while feeling. Try implementing them with your breath work meditation or while listening to a soothing sound. It can feel awkward at first but over time, you will see the self-criticism soften and build trust within yourself. If you’ve had to survive hard seasons, trusting your own voice may take time and that’s okay. This is not toxic positivity, it’s a gentle renovation.

Affirmations 101: For Beginners

How and when do I do this? Do I just say it? Do I have to spin around in the dark bathroom 3 times for it to work? Fortunately, no. It’s simple, really. You can do it however and whenever you want. Sure, there are some scenarios where the connection may hit a little deeper – for instance, repeating them as you look at yourself in the mirror. But the overall point is kindness and repetition.

  • Whisper a gentle reminder that you are safe as soon as you wake up
  • If you can’t say it out loud yet, try whispering it in your head
  • Tie them to activities, repeat them as you do your skin care or prepare your meals

It doesn’t matter when you say it, how you say it, or what you’re doing when you repeat them. What matters is that you show up with words of encouragement for yourself reducing shame and increasing confidence.

Safety Affirmations: Speak it. Especially on the days you don't want to. I am safe. I am loved. I am cared for. I am confident in my abilities and believe in myself. I am capable of creating a safe space for myself. I am in control of my thoughts and emotions. I am worthy of love, happiness, and peace. I choose to care for myself even when it hurts.

I’ve included below affirmations that have helped me along the way and still today. My brain still shames me from time to time, but that voice isn’t quite as loud now. Kindness is louder, grace is louder, love is louder.
